Does it matter if you go to a university or online education for a real estate appraiser career?

I’m looking for a career change and I was thinking about real estate appraisal and I was wondering what the best route to take is ..bachelor’s degree, online education, classes through a real estate licenseing school? Also how steady and reliable is this career field ?
